The city of San Jose wished to celebrate its colourful and varied history through a commemorative space. Aditya designed a steel wall mural that showcase the advent and rise of western civilization on one side, and the flourishing but diminishing native American culture on the other. Using historical photographs etched on to steel, the story of the epicentre of the digital revolution is told in a sequential manner. The arrival of the Spanish Mexicans in 1600s and the setting up of an agricultural economy, the arrival of the Anglo Americans in the 1850s during the gold rush, the changes to the land as part of the plum and peach orchards in the 1920s, the aeronautics industry in the 1950s and finally into Silicon Valley in the 1980s till now. The other side shows the Native Americans as the rightful owners of the land, being forced to change their hunter gatherer lives into factory workers, laborers and armed forces personnel serving the nation in the Vietnam war.
