Adjacent to downtown San Jose, Confluence Park East was the last remaining open space in the Guadalupe Park system. Situated at the confluence of the Guadalupe River and Los Gatos Creek, the site was prone to flooding the city every few years. The Army Corps built a bypass channel at this site, and a park on top of it that was then designed by Aditya. Through a combination of educational and interpretive plazas, the design for Confluence Park East explores the meaning of confluence in multiple ways; the confluence of two streams; of successive inhabitants of a singular site; of ecology and technology; and lastly the nature of a multi-cultural, 21st century American city such as San Jose, which has become a confluence of peoples from around the world. Aditya designed the park to speak to the universal nature of the human race, and it is now one of the major celebration grounds in this multicultural city.
