Walnut Creek Library

Aditya worked with Group 4 Architects on Walnut Creek’s new public library which serves as a gateway to the mature and beautiful downtown Civic Park. Tree-lined pathways arc into the site and combine with raised planters to create lush gathering spaces that bring the park closer to the community. These gathering spaces include a special Children’s Reading Garden with a butterfly theme, and a seating terrace outside the library’s Café. A new “Library Green” was created between the library and the park to host community events and provide places for respite on hot days. The landscape also respects the environment with native plantings near the creek and grassy bioswales to collect and filter the site’s stormwater runoff. This design takes advantage of existing park amenities such as mature oak and London Plane trees, pedestrian connections to the centre of the city, and open green spaces that fully integrate the new library into this popular downtown park.

Aditya was Principal-in-Charge and Design Leader for this project while at RHAA.
